Improved Grid Impedance Compensation for Phase-Locked Loop to Stabilize the Very-Weak-Grid Connection of VSIs

Voltage source inverters (VSIs) with vector control based on phase-locked loop (PLL) suffer instability when connecting to a very weak AC grid (short circuit ratio (SCR) $ < $ 1.3). The conventional inductive impedance compensation for the PLL by virtually reducing can stabilize this connection. However, analysis in paper indicates that its stabilization effectiveness is sensitive variance and, indeed, overcompensation causes instability. Therefore, paper, an improved proposed achieve same very-weak-grid connection and possess good tolerance of overcompensation. A comprehensive small-signal model VSI using PLL’s derived stability parameter design. time-domain simulation built validate analysis. Comparison studies both are conducted including effectiveness, performance variance.
